Operation Christmas Child....Samitartan's Purse

The children from S.N. Muire gan Smál presented 226 shoeboxes full of Christmas presents for the children in Eastern Europe. This is a lovely initiative for our pupils to be involved in as it makes them aware of children less well off than themselves. €1,104 was also collected to cover the cost of transporting these gifts and also to the purchasing of medicines and other essentials the children may need.

6th Class Organise Annual School Bazaar

Every year, on a Saturday in late November, the pupils in 6th class organise a School Bazaar. They encourage households in the locality to donate unused toys, books and comics and to bake cakes, buns, biscuits and treats which the pupils then organise into stalls and sell to all who come. Donations are made to different charities each year and this year the €1,300 raised was divided between the Irish Epilepsy Assoc. and the Irish Foster Assoc. M.S. Readathon, 17th Oct. - 17th Nov.

The M.S. Readathon was a huge success this year. 95% of the pupils from 1st - 6th class took part and raised €7325, the highest total raised by any school nationwide.

The image browser on the right shows a selection of the school's pupils who took part in the Readathon with the prizes they received for their outstanding fundraising efforts. Enjoy!
