Welcome to our new Senior Infant Page 2019-2020

We are delighted to be back at school with our new teacher Mr Reilly and Áine. We had a lovely summer and are ready to work hard and have fun in the year ahead. As the year progresses we will be updating our website page so keep an eye out for our exciting adventures at school.
Halloween has arrived in Senior Infants. All the children made great effort with their costumes and had fun today at school. We also made breakfast at school and enjoyed this experience. Well done to everyone! Below are pictures of our fun day.
This week we joined up with Junior Infants and went for a nature walk around our school grounds. After our walk we were tired so we made the most of the beautiful sunshine and had a picnic with our new friends in our outside classroom area. Two boys from sixth class joined us to show the cup they won in a local hurling competition. We also wore green to show support to our wonderful local GAA Club.
Today we had a very special visitor visiting our classroom. We were so delighted to see Carol the Lama. A big thank you to Rebecca, Ella and Jim Meegan for bringing the lama to our classroom.

Christmas in 6th Class
We are very busy at this time of the year preparing for Christmas. On Tuesday we had a non uniform day for our local S.V. P. committee. Our school raised over 1200 euro. This was a fantastic achievement for a school our size. Well done to everyone !!!
On Wednesday we collected food donated by two local schools and packed over 30 food hampers for S.V.P. These hampers were delivered to families in the local area.
On Thursday we visited the local Sunhill Nursing Home where we sang carols.
Today we are getting our Christmas Holidays and we would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and the Best Wishes for the new year ahead.

Junior Entrepreneur Programme 2018-2019
This school year we are going to be working on the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. Since Mr Reilly introduced the programme to us we have been busy thinking of business ventures and coming up with ideas that we think might work as a profit business for our class. We had the opportunity to present our business idea to the class last week. We also presented our ideas to the whole school community and every child in our school had a chance to see our individual business and ask questions. Our next step as a class was to have a secret ballot. We voted for our top business ideas and Mr Reilly counted all the votes. We were told which 6 ideas were successful and these ideas will be presented to the dragons later on in the year. Below are photos of us presenting our business ventures.
Breakfast and Friendship Friday
Last Friday we started the day on a great buzz. We made an Irish Breakfast. We had just about enough food to feed all 35 pupils in the class. It was great fun. We are also enjoying Friendship Fridays where each Friday a pupil gets a turn to bring in a treat for all members of our class. Its a great way to show that we all care for one another and its a lovely treat after our Friday tests. Below is a picture of our first breakfast cooked this year.

Halloween 2016 has arrived to 5th Class
For our art lesson this week we are busy constructing 3D structures. When we have our mobiles completed we will take photos of them and post them on the web.
Since returning to school we have completed various projects. We enjoy doing these projects and we present them in front of our classmates. Mr Reilly then displays them on the school corridors so other students can get an oppourtunity to read our work. We are very proud of our projects so far and we look forward to many more as the year progresses. Below is a gallery of our history and geography projects .
During the summer holidays our school garden plots were taken over by weeds. We decided we would weed them and this year we will maintain one of these plots. We had great fun weeding them and next week we hope to plant some bulbs. Watch this space as our garden changes during the seasons and hopefully by next Spring our garden will be in full bloom. Below is a gallery of us hard at work.
Tie Dye
The children brought in plain white t-shirts and carried out the 3 day process of tie dying them in the Irish colours. With the upcoming celebrations of the centenary, Saint Patrick's day and Lá Gaeilge we thought this would be a great way to celebrate and appreciate being Irish. The children really enjoyed this and the results were amazing. We are going to wear our t-shirts next week for Lá Gaeilge so watch this space!!!!!

The children got into the roles of people during famine times during drama and circle time activities. They also took on characters during famine times and wrote letters home from America to loved ones in Ireland as they had emigrated their as a result of the Famine.

Christmas Decorations
The children made lovely decorations for Christmas over a few weeks. They designed their decorations on paper before moving onto moulding them with clay. They then put cling film over them and left they to dry. After one week they used paper maché to cover them. Again they were left to dry. They then covered them with white paper before painting them. It was a very fun and enjoyable process and the results were even better. Plus they will have a decoration which they can put on their tree every year!!!!

A
Wonderful Mother
God made a wonderful Mother,
A mother who never grows old,
He made her smile with the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold
In her eyes he placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see,
God made a wonderful Mother,
And He gave that Mother to me.
