Welcome to Ms Butterly's Third Class!

Welcome to Ms. Butterly's 3rd Class. There are 20 girls and 10 boys in our class this year. We are very excited for our busy year ahead! ​​

Breakfast in the Staff Room

As a treat Ms Butterly and Brenda brought us to the staff room for breakfast. We had rashers, sausages, waffles, beans and toast, We had a great time and breakfast was delicious!

Ms. Woods

We had Ms. Woods in teaching us. She was in our class for 3 weeks. We will really miss her around the classroom and the school.

Science

We were looking at different materials and so we made parachutes to test them out. Check out the photos!

3-D Shapes

We were learning all about 3-D shapes this week.

Our Halloween Lanterns!
​The Finished Product!

We rolled the grease proof paper and stapled them to form cylinders. We then punched holes in them so we could attach the string to make handles. We each got a battery operated tea light. They look great!!

Halloween Lanterns

We were looking at construction in art so we decided to make Halloween lanterns.  Firstly, we cut out leaves and pumpkins using paper and scissors. Then, we glued them onto grease proof paper. Next week we will finish them. Keep an eye out to see the finished product!

A Little Princess

We had a theatre group come to the school and preform 'A Little Princess'. It was absolutely fantastic. We all enjoyed the wonderful performance.

STEM Bins

 Ms Butterly set up STEM bins. We usually work in pairs on a challenge card using a range of different things. Check out the photos below! It is so much fun!

Marshmallow Buildings

We were set a STEM challenge! We had to build a building/ structure using marshmallows and melted chocolate. We had a certain criteria to follow. We looked at how chocolate changes from a solid to a liquid when melted. Check out the photos below! In the end we ate the buildings!

Egypt

We were learning all about Egypt. It is an interesting country and we did a lot of investigating!!

We drew our self portraits and we added different materials to them. They are displayed in the classroom and they look amazing!

Climate Action Protest!

Piet Mondrian

We were learning about lines and angles in maths and we were inspired by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. We have our work displayed in the corridor and it really brightens up the place.

Estimation Station

Science

We were learning about the human body. We know it is very important to look after our bodies. We can do this by eating the right foods and exercising. We produced amazing portraits inspired by Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We had great fun doing them!

​Welcome to Ms. Butterly's 5th Class!

Welcome to Ms. Butterly's 5th Class. This year we have 9 girls and 9 boys in the class. We are already very busy working hard and have lots of fun lessons and activities planned for the year!

A Bit of Baking!!

The two classes came together to do some baking. We made many different things such as buns, muffins, chocolate cakes and cookies. We worked in groups and all our treats turned out very well. Some groups even decorated their treats. Yummy!

Private Peaceful

We are reading the book 'Private Peaceful' by Michael Morpurgo in 5th Class and we are really enjoying it! We have been writing chapter summaries and working on character profiles. 

Pizza Making

We are learning about bia in Irish and  decided to make pizza in the staffroom. We really enjoyed making the pizzas and they were absolutely delicious!

Yoga

We have been enjoying our weekly session of Yoga with Louise!

Halloween Art

Halloween Art Competition
​We are designing our own Day of the Dead skulls for an art competition. We could win Christmas annuals for our class and a Smyth's voucher!! 
Report Writing
We were looking at report writing this month. We worked in pairs and researched different countries under different headings. We had great fun working with our friends.
Treasure Island
​
We enjoyed a production of Treasure Island followed by a workshop for the cast members. They showed us different tips which we could use when performing and they showed us the different equipment needed for a production.

September 2018: We’ve been doing some work on lines and angles in maths and we decided to get practical in our maths stations!
September 2018: We love it when both of the Fifth Classes work together because we’re brilliant at cooperating as a team. This week we were very excited to hear about our Fifth Class project of building a robots. We met our robot on Monday and began building, coding, recording and sketching on Thursday. What exciting times in Rang a Cúig!

Grandparents Day

We drew portraits of the staff in our school. We had to update the portraits because we got new people on our staff. We went to the staff room and had some toast and orange juice as a little treat!Our pictures are up in the hall for everyone to see.

Explosions in Art

We created explosions in art over 2 weeks. The first week we made our explosions using only black and white paper. The following week we did rubbings of our explosions. They turned out really well!

Materials

We went outside to collect different materials around the school grounds.We worked in groups collecting stones, twigs and leaves. We then came back into the classroom and sorted out our collection. 

Maths
Measurement

We are looking at length this week in Maths. We are looking at how we measure things and what units we use. We worked in pairs and measured lots of different things in the classroom - the width of the door, the length of the teachers desk, the length of the floor and many more things. We had a great time!
Estimation Station
Each week we estimate the amount of items in the tub. Then we put all the estimates in order. Whoever gets the best estimate gets to fill the tub for the next week.

Christmas Cards

We designed our very own Christmas cards. It was really exciting. We came up with lots of ideas. Judi sent them off to the printers so we will get them back in time to send them out for Christmas.

Happy Halloween!!
This week we played Bingo as Gaeilge, we tried bairín breac and wrote Halloween acrostic poems. We also dressed up for Halloween and had a party in our class!

Maths Games

We worked in pairs and designed the game 'Snakes & Ladders'. After we followed the instructions and made the game we played our game and we played other children's games. It was such good fun! 

Rice Krispie Buns

We made Rice Krispie Buns at school! We discussed the steps needed to make Rice Krispie Buns and we made them in the staff room. We needed to be very careful because we melted the chocolate using the hob. We read about 'The Story of Chocolate' and used this opportunity to use chocolate and make something delicious!! We mixed in marshmallows and smarties. We are looking at the different writing genres this year so we decided it would be a good time to practice procedural writing. Everyone did a great job!!

Table Quiz

After we completed and presented out projects on the locality we had a table quiz to see how much information we could remember. We had so much fun! The winning team got a prize!

Art Work

This month we drew self portraits and they turned out great! We used lots of different fibers and fabrics to complete our pictures. We also made colour wheel eyes! We put all our work on display and it really brightens up the classroom and corridors.

Materials 

 We used the school grounds to look for different materials. We found lots of different materials like wood, metal, plastic and rubber. We also discussed why different things were made from different materials. It was great fun to get out and about on such a sunny day! 

Our Projects

Our projects are displayed in our classroom. We are going to invited other classes into our classroom to have a look at them. Ms Butterly and Dolores were so impressed with our work!

Our Locality

We completed projects on our locality. Most of us worked individually but some of us worked in pairs. We discussed ideas at school after looking at our locality a little closer. We came up ideas like Seapoint Beach, St. Fechíns GAA, Carstown House, Drummond Garlic, Seapoint Golf Club, Beaulieu House, Surterrains, La Pizzeria and many more. Ms Butterly and Dolores were so impressed with all the projects. We presented them to the class and we had a table quiz on all the projects! It was so much fun!

Mo Chlann

We were learning about our families in both English and Irish. We learnt a lot of new vocabulary and wrote about 'Our Families'!

We Are Unique!

We started off the year but looking at how unique and wonderful we all are. We chatted about all the different interests and talents in our class! We decided to write about how unique we all are and displayed our work! It really added colour to our room!
