Fourth Class 2019-2020

September
4th class have been very busy this September. We have made a great start to the year and are working hard.
For the month of September we have been studying our place in the solar system. We learnt all about the sun and how it gives us our nights and days, seasons and years. We read about the dangers of the sun and the importance of the sun for plant life and our water cycle.
We made a sundial using a stick and some stones, marking the ground at each hourly intervals. We could see how the sun made a shadow of the stick and how it moved during the day. We could also see the shadow getting shorter and longer as the day went on.
We used grass seed and compost to make two grassheads. Using water for only one,we could see how much better the grasshead grew when watered.
We made sun catchers in art class and they allow the light to shine through and brighten our room. Our chalk pastel solar systems are beautiful and brighten up the corridor. We designed and constructed Mars aliens during art class too.
We also learnt how to write a good piece of recount writing. We researched a Mars rover mission and wrote a piece about it. Some examples are shown in the photos below. Fantastic work everyone!

October

In October we enjoyed making pizzas in our class. We also dressed up for Halloween in very spooky costumes and had a great days fun!

November and December

During Novemeber we went on a Nature walk down Flynn's lane and we spent a lot of time practicing for the Christmas concert, Frankie and Me. The children worked extremely hard and they performed wonderfully on the night.

January

We did lots of projects in January. We enjoyed preparing the classroom and the corridor for our open day to show all our amazing work to our community.

February

During February we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favorite book characters. We also took part in Engineer's Week and did different experiments in the classroom. At the end of the week, we took a trip to DKIT and took part in a workshop about Interesting Scientists,. It was a great day out!
