Fáilte go Rang a hAon
Welcome to our 1st class page. You can check out all the lovely work we do in 1st class. The children are working extremely hard and are always full of fun and enthusiasm!
Autumn
Autumn Autumn everywhere!!!! We started the year off with a beautiful poem on Autumn. This inspired some lovely lessons in Geography, Science and Art. We went on a lovely nature walk and spotted some beautiful signs of autumnal nature. We talked about and learned about some animals who are getting ready for hibernation. We completed some beautiful art pictures too.

Julia Donaldson Books- You really can't beat a bit of Julia Donaldson to put you in good form. Her books are so fabulous and have the ability to open up the children's minds and imagination. Her stories are all supported with beautiful illustrations which the children absolutely love. One of our favourites so far is The Smartest Giant in Town. The children worked in groups to complete pictures of the giant using the fabric and fibre strand in Art. They also picked scenes for the story and wrote about them They did a wonderful job!
Maths Time
Who said Maths can't be fun??? The children just love making their number stories using cubes and recording their work on the whiteboards. Look how studious they are!!!!

BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL
BREAKFAST TIME!!!! The children were treated to breakfast as they were so good! They had waffles, sausages, rashers and toast!! They devoured every bit! How lucky are they!!!

The Children of Lir/ Autumnal Art
We learned about The Children of Lir in History this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed working in pairs to write about and illustrate different parts of the story. We also went outside to explore the beauty of nature during the autumn months. We saw beautiful autumnal colours everywhere. look at our paintings! They are such a creative bunch!!!

A Visit to Arranmore
The children worked in groups the design brochures for Arranmore. We learned all about the beautiful Arranmore island in Geography which inspired us to do project work on different counties in Ireland. The children really enjoyed designing brochures to attract tourists to Arranmore. I really want to go after reading these. They are amazing!

                                                           Spooky Halloween
The children wrote fantastic and spooky Halloween poems and stories. They completed these with very scary pictures. Look at their brilliant work!!!

HOMES AND HOUSES
We studied this topic in Geography a couple of weeks back. The children found it very interesting so we decided to develop it by constructing houses of our own. The children worked in groups and did a fantastic job by using an abundance of recyclable materials they found both at home and at school. They absolutely loved this work and became consumed by building their ideal homes. The children worked so well together. It was a pleasure to see. Some of the houses were so big that I even considered moving in!!!!!

The Butterfly Lion
We just recently finished reading our novel 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Murporgo. The children thoroughly enjoyed reading this and learning all about the different characters and how they developed throughout the story. The children completed many different oral, written and art activities based on the novel. They did such amazing work...as usual!

What is Treasure?
We learned a beautiful poem called What is Treasure by Pauline Stewart. The children wrote their own poems in response to this. I think we have some future poets on out hands!

Spring Has Sprung
Spring has certainly sprung in 4th class with these bright and beautiful pictures. We learned the lovely poem called 'Daffodils' by William Wordsworth and the children used paint to create beautiful pictures based on this poem. They certainly brighten up our classroom.

The Midnight Fox By Betsy Byers
We started reading a fabulous new novel by Betsy Byers. We are really enjoying it. We did covers for the book in Art using oil pastels. Look at our beautiful work.

                                                                         THE SOLAR SYSTEM
We have just recently finished our solar system project. We completed a lesson on the solar system in Geography & Science. We were also inspired by our English story This is not Earth and were inspired by our two aliens in our Irish book, Rac & Rol. We enjoyed doing this project.
Room to Improve
I think we might have some interior designers on our hands judging by these fantastic pictures. The children designed four rooms in their 'own' houses. They used different fabrics and materials and were thrilled making a mess in the classroom!!!

Baking
Look the happy faces!! The children worked together in groups to bake delicious goodies. We had a variety of baked goods including brownies, cookies, rocky road, biscuit cake and a delightful madeira cake. Watch out Mary Berry!!!
