Our School Ethos

Scoil Náisiúnta Muire gan Smál, under the Patronage of the Archbishop of Armagh and established in connection with the Minister of Education, aims at promoting the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the person of the pupil: intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual, including a living relationship with God and with other people.

Our school models and promotes a philosophy of life inspired by belief in God and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a Catholic school, we provide Religious Education for the pupils in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church and we promote the formation of the pupils in the Catholic Faith

The photograph above is courtesy of a student in the school, Daniel M., who took it as part of a Visual Art project on interesting features of our school. The photo depicts the school grotto which gives the school its name: Scóil Náisiúnta Muire gan Smál. The grotto is to be found in the garden to the fore of the school in front of what was the original school building. This section of the school now houses 6th class.

The photograph on the right depicts the Church of the Assumption which is a very short walking distance from the school. Pupils attend the Church regularly, for Wednesday morning Mass, for other Masses throughout the year and this is where the 2nd class pupils will celebrate First Penance and First Eucharist.
