The Rhythm of Life

Music is an integral part of school life where the teaching of the tin whistle and the guitar are very popular among the students. As the image on the right shows, even the Junior Infants get involved in music making with the school's percussion instruments.

Visit to the local Highlanes Gallery

We are lucky to be in such close proximity to Drogheda that we can benefit from the cultural centres and places of interest the town has to offer. One of the centres we visit is the Highlanes Gallery which openly welcomes students. Under the guidance of the gallery's educational officer, Hillary Kelly, 6th class were introduced to the Gallery's permanent collection of Art as well as the current exhibition.
6th class had prepared well for the visit and were familiar with 2 of the artists featured in the permament collection prior to the visit, namely Grace Henry and L.S. Lowry. It was great to see their work in reality. Other paintings in the collection revealed wonderful detail about the history of Drogheda.
Please use the image browser on the left to see highlights of this visit.

The photo on the left shows Hillary Kelly of the Highlanes Gallery showing a Grace Henry painting to the pupils.

Storyteller Liam Farrell visits Cartown

Working with children from infants to 4th classes, (see photo, right) Liam told the story of the "Good Wolf" based on the fairytale, "The Three Little Pigs". The story was entertainingly told from the wolf's point of view. In contrast, Mr Farrell organised a workshop with 5th and 6th classes to help develop their story writing skills, focusing on creating characters and plot. Both activities proved enjoyable for all the pupils.
